Strange Weather

The Wind
Wind is the movement of air near the Earth’s surface. Wind can be a gentle breeze or a strong gale. The most powerful wind happens during storms called tornadoes, cyclones, and hurricanes.

Changes in the temperature of air, land, and water cause
wind.

The sun’s rays heat up the earth’s surface at different rates.
In this case, the land is warmer than the water. When air is heated up, it rises. This leaves room from the cooler
air above the water to flow in. The flowing air is wind.

Dust Cloud

Dust clouds are common in arid (dry) areas.
Dust clouds form when strong winds blow loose sand and
dirt from a dry surface.

Many dust clouds originate in the Sahara desert.

A Saharan dust cloud began to affect the Caribbean in
June of 2020.

The Rainbow

The rainbow is formed when sunlight shines through the
drops in a rain shower. The light is scattered and separates
into its colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo,
and violet.
