Too HOT and HUMID to Live: Extreme Wet Bulb Events Are on the Rise

As climate change continues warming the planet, a new and invisible killer is emerging: extreme wet bulb temperatures. This refers to a potentially lethal combination of heat and humidity that, until now, have appeared somewhat infrequently around the world. But models predict that they are likely to become an increasingly big problem in the coming years.

In this episode we explore the intersection between climate science and meteorology to tell you where in the world is most at risk of these increasingly dangerous conditions.

Weathered is a show hosted by weather expert Maiya May and produced by Balance Media that helps explain the most common natural disasters, what causes them, how they’re changing, and what we can do to prepare.

This makes so much sense. I always tell people being you know from Houston like when it's humid here like you can feel it. It's gross as soon as you step outside. You have like a thin layer of moisture on your entire body. It literally feels like you're breathing in. I want to say like wet heat. It's hard to describe like breathing genuinely doesn't feel as pleasant either. It's just so gross. And even if you are born here and live here your whole life, you never get used to it and it feels like it's only getting worse every year. Every summer every year is getting worse. And our summer's last longer than summers here. Will be lucky if we get a winter in spring is just less hot but more humid. It's just oh man. I don't know why people want to stay here forever. I want to leave and it's genuinely because of the weather. If we had better weather I could stay here for the rest of my life but the weather is what keeps me wanting to leave

Global warming is a myth.

The Moon slowly moving away from Earth causing our
rotation to decrease = climate changes.

It's Not us tiny humans compared to the grand mysteries of our universe.

Cornelius Corcoran September 12, 2023 at 6:36 pm

Dear Folks, whether it's too late or not, I want us to get angry. Really, really angry. Thirty five years ago, this was all accepted science and SCIENCE was ACCEPTED, until a few dozen men decided to spend tens of billions, buying our politicians, flooding our media with green-washed nonsense and befuddling half the population, until, in order to agree with the onslaught of denialism, they stopped believeing in science itself. These men have quite probably condemned us all, we know their names- why aren't we getting justice from these murderous scum. Every one of their names should trip off our tongues. W'e' didn't do this, anonymous corporations didn't do this, a few dozen cancerous, malignant bastards did this. I want revenge.

Theknowbuddies September 13, 2023 at 5:51 pm

Maybe if they stopped creating the climate change by using weather modification emf, etc. It is the UV radiation cooking us not heat

david colarusso September 13, 2023 at 5:54 pm

Mother earth is fed up with our bullshit. Change our behavior or die

Gilbert Woodward September 13, 2023 at 10:50 pm

The sociopaths who are running the heat with fossil fuel burning. The already know the problem with the climate.

ROBERT DELROSSO September 14, 2023 at 9:50 am

Good Video.
However, at the 3:26 mark, you say that 500 million years ago, per your Graph, the Earth's Average Temperature was 14 Degrees Celsius ("C") or 25 Degrees F, than it is today.

It is worth noting that, 500 million years ago, there were NO humans on Earth, so it is irrelevant what the temperature was 500 million Years ago. The DINOSAURS were not even around 500 million years ago, having existed from 200 million to 65 million years ago.

500 million years ago, the Earth might as well have been an EXOPLANET.
Quick, what was the Average Global Temperature on the Exoplanet "51 Pegasi A", 500 million years ago?

During this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix the temps in the driver cockpit can hit 50C. On top of this drivers where fire protective suits. They survive for two hours just fine. You simply need to hydrate.

Zhvianna September 21, 2023 at 3:41 pm

IK it’s wild but I feel like each summer in Florida it doesn’t get hotter just longer… like I remember High school days it was wildly hot 105/ 110F and it was extremely humid; I haven’t felt heat like that in a while, even now in September I’m able to walk outside at night and even feel the breeze, it’s not unbearable like few years back

Mike newell September 22, 2023 at 4:46 pm

Another new term to scare people into believing the climate change BS.

Hunter Vassar September 25, 2023 at 12:17 am

Is it possible that humans will adapt to these new environmental conditions 🤔

Carl Kligerman September 25, 2023 at 4:08 am

Alarmist nonsense. Stay in the shade, hydrate, and lower your amount of activity. Use a fan or air con. I live in Australia where severe heatwaves are becoming very common and have NEVER relied on air con (I don’t have it). We just run a small fan, eat watermelon and drink plenty of fluids, avoid alcohol or anything that dehydrates and stay out of the sun during the peak, from 10-3/4. NBD! Wet bulb events are truly the least of our problems when it comes to pace of climate change, food supply breakdowns, extreme and destructive weather events, and ecological collapse will take care of us long before millions are dropping from heat stroke.

Gary September 27, 2023 at 11:04 am

The solution is simple. Use nukes to cause Yellowstone to have a full eruption. That will block out the sun for ten years, dropping the global temperature by sixty or seventy degrees for a thousand years and covering the planet in ice. We win, and become extinct, along with most life. Big win for everyone.

Kelly Bo Belly September 27, 2023 at 2:09 pm

The lowest wet bulb temperature is more impressive imo.

Captain Codebook September 28, 2023 at 2:38 am

3:30 So you actually PROVED the point of the world will change…and we CANNOT stop it or cause it. We have to plan to adapt or die, not waste energy against the inevitable

Liftnd September 29, 2023 at 10:11 am

It’s criminal for you to get population worked up about something you cannot seriously say what the complete picture of the global climate and impact it’s going to be in a 100 years. Please Stop it . They can’t even agree on the age of the Universe and we thought that was settled science and now they may have been a few years off from the original 14 billion years old to a somewhere the 24-27 billion years old. So just be aware of the people talking as matter of fact about something that is complicated it usually means they have no clue. As Richard Feynman said about quantum Physics “If you think you understand it, you don’t understand it”

omie djo September 30, 2023 at 12:43 pm

Its all because they are f.king with the weather for so long, and the simpletons dont believe this.

Stephen Bachman September 30, 2023 at 4:50 pm

2070 i will be dead by then.

Opossum Boy September 30, 2023 at 9:23 pm

If you are concerned about the climate issue, I recommend the following (yes, i’m repeating this message, sorry)

1. Learn as much as you can about the climate polycrisis. Don’t just study weather patterns; educate yourself on global warming, biological feedbacks, the damage caused by warming oceans/ocean acidification, the risks of desertification and agricultural losses, and the potential for sea level rise.

2. Recognize that the solutions are incredibly complex and do not involve just building electric cars or having everyone recycle; they require a fundamental shift in the system by which we live. For (scientifically backed) information on this and many other topics, I recommend “The Great Simplification” right here on youtube.

3. Protect yourself for the future. Within the next two decades we will likely see drastic shifts in the system by which we live. IF YOU CAN, move to the center of whatever continent you live in. Educate yourself on practical matters such as growing food, self-defense, and repair. Personal changes like going vegan or driving an electric car are good for making you feel better, but they will NOT protect you in the event of a major collapse.

4. Continue to petition the government for change. Citizen’s Climate Lobby is a great place to start, although they do not seem to consider the problem as drastic as some sources. XR is disjointed and, while they are certainly visible, their message will become less effective as things get worse, because people will respond with violence more quickly. Recognize that it is simply too late to stop much of the damage from climate change without fundamentally changing society.

I am happy to elaborate on any of these points. Even if you believe this is all a liberal hoax or something, I urge you to take steps to protect yourself. Doubt does not make you foolish; ignorance does.

Middle America Will Soon Be Too Hot to Live in, Scientists Predict…..😂😂😂😂😂😂

Just like every other climate prediction that has not even come close to true….😂😂😂😂 fake news!

DranZuthahor Gaming October 12, 2023 at 6:25 am

I’m beginning to wonder that if it’s too hot for humans to live and we cant occupy or animals cannot either then life cannot be sustained in those regions and these bubbles will just get bigger and bigger. Pretty much we are suffocating ourselves out of existence.
