The Barkley Marathons are a race unlike any other. With over 100 miles of wild terrain, and twice the elevation of climbing and descending Mt. Everest from sea level, it’s a race that expects runners to fail. In 38 years, only 15 runners have completed the Barkley Marathons, but that doesn’t stop hundreds of athletes from applying for entry every year. This year, I was lucky enough to see the race in person as I documented Joe McConaughy’s first attempt at one of the most challenging races in the world. The film also features athletes AurΓ©lien Sanchez, John Kelly, Karel Sabbe, Damian Hall, Jared Campbell, and Jasmin Paris.

I loved every second of this! ππ
No on course footage, a bit dull Iβm afraid
What a cozy documentary. In a way, it reminds me of the feeling I got from The Sunshine Makers. Mystical, positive vibes.
And people ask if humans will find meaning after the singularity. This French guy just said running, screaming through the forest was the biggest dream of his life and he never thought it would happen!
The camera flashes when he is almost passing out makes me want to punch someone in the face.
That makes all my long distance runs, bike rides, swims look like wellness treatments. Incredible athletes, physically and mentally. Chapeau
Watching this was an emotional rollercoaster. All of the athletes are amazing!
We all appreciate you.
I'm that guy constantly checking Twitter and Instagram and YouTube the whole time during Barkley race day!!!!
Each year these ladies and gentlemen make me cry. Thank you so very much.
It's so cool to see the people in the 2012 doc back all still involved with the race.
βThat was easyβ ! Thank you – loved it.
Wow beautiful documentary. Brought me to tears at the end
Iβm always up for watching new documentaries about this race. Love them all
Canβt wait for a doc next year showing how brutal the new course is!
Your videos are so so well edited. I love how you let the stories tell themselves without too much commentary. So enjoyable
"Frozen chicken is cooked to various degrees of medium-rare" – such a poetic way of putting it π
letter of condolence π

This documentary was put together so well. WOW! Thanks!
15 people have finished the Barkley. 12 men have walked on the moon. Just a thought
This was great! Nice job to the runners and the filmmaker.
You have to be a psychopath to think of such a race π
Laz racking up these docu appearances
I'm so proud of Karel!!! I watched a different Barkley Marathon doc focused on his first run and I was so inspired.

Brilliant inspirational thank you
I'm in love with Jasmin
Amazing documentary, enjoyed every second of it. Great work!
This is amazing. We need something like this in Australia. Though i'm sure it will never be the same
FANTASTIC! Thanks for this!!
No woman has ever completed this race, but women do finish the Marathon of the Sands, the British 3 Peaks, the Comrades, and other gruelling races. I guess those races are nowhere near as tough as this!
Laz is a family friend of mine and a lovely guy, so glad you were able to capture him well in this. Made me really happy to have grown up with this race π
that is crap. he did not return with the book page. he lost. bad call stupid call by the race director. the same dilema could have happened to either of the other two. they could have not had their book out there. fair is fair. bending the rules for the french guy?
