With unprecedented heat waves and record-breaking global temperatures, it’s hard to believe that there might be a place on earth that has actually COOLED since the industrial revolution. But, it turns out, there is such a spot. The COLD BLOB off of Greenland mystified scientists for years, but new studies have uncovered a scary reality – this cool patch might be a warning of the impending collapse of a vital earth circulation system. And the consequences would be dire.

In this episode of Weathered, we travel to the Gulf Stream with the new PBS Terra show Sharks Unknown to experience the AMOC first hand. And we ask, what is the likelihood that the AMOC will collapse, and what would the consequences be?

Weathered is a show hosted by weather expert Maiya May and produced by Balance Media that helps explain the most common natural disasters, what causes them, how they’re changing, and what we can do to prepare.

Too HOT and HUMID to Live: Extreme Wet Bulb Events Are on the Rise https://paranormalactivity.org/too-hot-and-humid-to-live-extreme-wet-bulb-events-are-on-the-rise/ https://paranormalactivity.org/too-hot-and-humid-to-live-extreme-wet-bulb-events-are-on-the-rise/#comments Tue, 09 May 2023 18:01:18 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/too-hot-and-humid-to-live-extreme-wet-bulb-events-are-on-the-rise/

As climate change continues warming the planet, a new and invisible killer is emerging: extreme wet bulb temperatures. This refers to a potentially lethal combination of heat and humidity that, until now, have appeared somewhat infrequently around the world. But models predict that they are likely to become an increasingly big problem in the coming years.

In this episode we explore the intersection between climate science and meteorology to tell you where in the world is most at risk of these increasingly dangerous conditions.

What Could THOUSANDS of Mysterious Whales Tell Us About Our Weather? https://paranormalactivity.org/what-could-thousands-of-mysterious-whales-tell-us-about-our-weather/ https://paranormalactivity.org/what-could-thousands-of-mysterious-whales-tell-us-about-our-weather/#comments Tue, 07 Mar 2023 19:36:35 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/what-could-thousands-of-mysterious-whales-tell-us-about-our-weather/

Take the 2023 PBS Survey: https://to.pbs.org/pbssurvey2023j

The Arctic is experiencing global warming much faster than the rest of the world. A new study shows four times faster, in fact! One of the effects of this accelerated warming is the melting sea ice in the Arctic. And researchers off the southeast coast of Greenland have started to notice some surprising and alarming new guests.

A variety of exotic marine life have begun to move in, now able to live in the warmer waters. And while this may serve as a boon to some of the inhabitants of the region and its fishing economy, it also signals profound and likely permanent ecosystem changes and points toward the kinds of tipping points we may see if we continue emitting greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Tune into this episode of Weathered to learn about what some of the unexpected consequences might be from the warming Arctic to our jetstream and our Weather.

What is the RISKIEST Region in the US as the Climate Changes? https://paranormalactivity.org/what-is-the-riskiest-region-in-the-us-as-the-climate-changes/ https://paranormalactivity.org/what-is-the-riskiest-region-in-the-us-as-the-climate-changes/#comments Wed, 25 Jan 2023 19:52:09 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/what-is-the-riskiest-region-in-the-us-as-the-climate-changes/

Climate Change is increasing the frequency and severity of natural disasters all around the world. And in the United States, more and more people seem to be moving to the places that are projected to be most impacted by climate change, from hazards such as flooding, wildfire, storms, drought and extreme heat; and leaving the most climate-resilient areas. At first glance, this seems like a bizarre and paradoxical trend. So, for this episode of Weathered, we decided to see if we could get to the bottom of it.

We spoke to experts and sifted through lots of data about moving trends and shifting climate patterns to figure out what’s really going on here and what you can do to avoid moving into harm’s way.

If you feel like the weather has been getting a lot weirder and wilder lately, you’re not alone. While it’s easy to blame climate change, we need to dive deeper. There has been a recent increase in polar vortex events bringing arctic air far enough south to cause snow in places like Texas, extreme heat waves like in the Pacific Northwest, and extreme rain like we saw after Hurricane Ida. Even fires in Siberia and drought hint at a new dust bowl. NOAA’s 2020 Billion-Dollar Weather and Climate Disaster report showed a notable uptick in extremes. And 2021 was no exception, with 10.6% of all weather stations reporting record temperatures. And with the continued emission of carbon into the atmosphere, this should come as no real surprise.

But some new scientific research shows that there is a surprising thread that connects nearly all of these weather events. Tune in to learn why it feels like our weather is spiraling out of control and what we might have in store.

Why on Earth are Winters Getting Worse if the Planet is Getting Warmer? | Weathered https://paranormalactivity.org/why-on-earth-are-winters-getting-worse-if-the-planet-is-getting-warmer-weathered/ https://paranormalactivity.org/why-on-earth-are-winters-getting-worse-if-the-planet-is-getting-warmer-weathered/#comments Mon, 01 Feb 2021 16:00:55 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/why-on-earth-are-winters-getting-worse-if-the-planet-is-getting-warmer-weathered/

Why do we see so much extreme winter weather even as the climate warms? Veteran climate scientist Judah Cohen describes one theory explaining the connection between changes in the jetstream, polar vortex events, and climate change. These bring blizzards, cold temperatures, and record-breaking snowfall to places that are expected to be warming. Examples are the Texas deep freeze in 2021 and in 2022, the extreme snow in Virginia which stranded drivers on I95 for over 24 hours. Watch to find out how global warming could be the cause of major weather shifts that actually increase snowfall events.

In 2015, Boston was brought to its knees by the worst winter on record, receiving an unprecedented 110 inches of snow. And over the last decade, the American Northeast has seen more than a 200% increase in the frequency of large, disruptive snowstorms. This trend surprised nearly everybody, including many of the top experts, as they had been expecting a warming planet to translate into milder winters. But in many locations, we have seen just the opposite. So what’s going on here?

We traveled to Boston to search for answers about these surprising effects of climate change and their connection to the jet stream, the polar vortex, and a phenomenon known as “arctic amplification.” We also discuss some of the most common risks like hypothermia, frostbite, heart attacks, and traffic accidents that make winter weather, far and away, the deadliest natural hazard of them all.

Weathered is a show hosted by meteorologist Maiya May and produced by Balance Media that helps explain the most common natural disasters, what causes them, how they’re changing, and what we can do to prepare.
