A fierce heatwave is sweeping across southern Europe, with warnings of record-breaking temperatures

Temperatures are expected to surpass 40C (104F) in parts of Spain, France, Greece, Croatia and Turkey.

In Italy, temperatures could reach as high as 48.8C (119.8F). A red alert warning has been issued for 10 cities, including Rome, Bologna and Florence.

The Cerberus heatwave – named by the Italian Meteorological Society after the three-headed monster that features in Dante’s Inferno – is expected to bring more extreme conditions in the next few days.

It isn’t just Europe that is hot. This summer has seen temperature records smashed in parts of Canada and the US as well as across a swathe of Asia including in India and China.

Sea temperatures in the Atlantic have hit record highs while Antarctic sea ice is at the lowest extent ever recorded.
And it is going to get hotter.

A weather pattern called El Niño is developing in the tropical Pacific. It tends to drive up temperatures by around 0.2C on average.

Add in the roughly 1.1C that climate change has pushed average temperatures up by worldwide and it’s perilously close to the 1.5C threshold the world has agreed to try and keep global temperatures below.

Weather for Kids | What is weather, and how does it work? https://paranormalactivity.org/weather-for-kids-what-is-weather-and-how-does-it-work/ Thu, 21 Jul 2022 17:00:11 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/weather-for-kids-what-is-weather-and-how-does-it-work/

You probably know about weather, but do you know what it actually is, how it works, and why it changes depending on where you are in the world? In Weather for Kids, you will learn that there are a number of factors that affect the weather outside. It’s not just about how hot or cold it is. Think about what it feels and looks apart from hot or cold, such as wet or dry, clear or cloudy, and calm or stormy. This video discusses what causes all of these effects.

You can use a thermometer to figure out how hot or cold it is outside quite easily. Should you weather a coat? Or is it time for a swim and a swimming suit would be more appropriate? Temperature is only one factor that affects the weather. Have you ever heard of humidity? The amount of water vapor in the air determines the humidity levels. Humidity refers to how wet or dry it is outside. The weather in hot desert likely has a very low humidity level, if any at all. However, in a tropical rainforest, even if it’s warm as well, it may be very wet instead of dry.

Another factor is air pressure. What air pressure affects is the presence of clouds. Basically, places that experience high pressure will show clear skies. Areas with low pressure have lots of clouds. To measure air pressure, you would need a barometer. Finally, there is the factor of wind. Wind and wind speed relate to storms. If it’s calm outside, it is likely that there isn’t much wind. Or if there is, it’s not very quick; it’s a light breeze. On the other hand, storms imply a lot of fast wind. Have you ever noticed that when it’s stormy, you also tend to feel the wind?

Extreme weather conditions worldwide due to climate change https://paranormalactivity.org/extreme-weather-conditions-worldwide-due-to-climate-change/ https://paranormalactivity.org/extreme-weather-conditions-worldwide-due-to-climate-change/#comments Wed, 06 Jul 2022 02:23:16 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/extreme-weather-conditions-worldwide-due-to-climate-change/

전세계 기상이변에 피해속출

Extreme weather conditions have been slamming all parts of the world recently.
A deadly glacial avalanche in Italy, catastrophic flooding in India, Bangladesh and Australia and record-breaking heatwaves in Europe have all proven to be deadly and increasingly costly.
Our Lee Ji-yoon has more.
Floods, drought and a glacier collapse.
These are some of the extreme weather conditions we’ve been seeing lately around the world.
Catastrophic floods displaced millions in India and neighboring Bangladesh in recent weeks… as seasonal monsoon rains came heavier and earlier than usual.
“All the houses here have been damaged by floods. Our wheat, rice, hens, cows everything has drowned. The farmlands have drowned too. The floods took away the fish from the fisheries,”

Torrential rains also battered Australia’s east coast and Sydney on Tuesday, with tens of thousands of residents forced to leave their homes after rivers rose past danger levels.
Over in Italy, a heatwave triggered the collapse of a mountain glacier in the Alps on Sunday, killing seven people.
France, Switzerland, Germany and Spain all saw their monthly temperature records broken last month as temperatures hit above 40 degrees Celcius… drying out soil and vegetation.
South Korea’s weather officials have also issued heat wave warnings across most of the country.
So what’s behind all this extreme weather?
“Global warming can intensify the El Nino and La Nina cycle and increasing the occurrences of extreme La Nina and El Nino events. So El Nino is the opposite of La Nina, it brings drought. So in a global warming scenario we need to be prepared for the possibility of a swing between drought and wet, or flood, in the following year.”

El Ni o brings about unusually warm ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific… as opposed to La Ni a, which is a weather phenomenon that typically brings above average rainfall on the east coast.
And with the return of La Nina and El Nino… weather experts warn that this sounds a loud warning… that climate change is upon us.

Europe’s climate in 2050 https://paranormalactivity.org/europes-climate-in-2050/ https://paranormalactivity.org/europes-climate-in-2050/#comments Wed, 03 Nov 2021 09:22:29 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/europes-climate-in-2050/

The speed and magnitude of the climate change we are facing today is unprecedented. Heatwaves, droughts, floods… We are feeling its effects on our daily lives, year after year. Its impacts will increase at least until 2050 and every region of Europe will be affected.

Based on the results of the latest available studies, and in particular, on the 6th IPCC report, this film, produced by scientists in the framework of the European project EUCP, aims to present to the general public the climate changes expected in Europe in 2050. The researchers explain in an accessible way the variations in temperature and precipitation as well as the extreme climate events that European inhabitants will have to face.

This film provides the keys to understand how climate will reshape our landscapes and lifestyles over the coming decades. … and to enable us to better anticipate the need for human societies to adapt to this partly inevitable climate change.

How weird is the weather? Can you handle the Truth? https://paranormalactivity.org/how-weird-is-the-weather-can-you-handle-the-truth/ https://paranormalactivity.org/how-weird-is-the-weather-can-you-handle-the-truth/#comments Tue, 08 Aug 2017 03:24:27 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/how-weird-is-the-weather-can-you-handle-the-truth/

The weather is at maximum weirdness & the flooding situation in the United States & Asia & the whole world is pretty off the charts compared to previous years rainfall totals. The bad news is it is not going to improve anytime soon. The good news is we know that now and can adapt and adjust to the changes if we can act as one family.

God bless everyone,

Daily downpours to raise risk of flooding from Texas to the Carolinas

Drenching thunderstorms will frequent the southern United States and raise the risk for local flash flooding and travel delays this week.
The set up early this week will lead to heavier and more frequent thunderstorms than what is typical in the South during the summer months.
“An unsettled pattern will lead to numerous showers and thunderstorms, perhaps heavy ones, from the southern Plains to the Tennessee Valley and Carolinas early this week,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Frank Strait said.
Moisture will congregate along a stalled system and lead to daily doses of wet weather through Wednesday.

Additional showers and thunderstorms will follow later in the week even as the front fizzles or lifts back northward.
Some communities will be drenched multiple times this week, raising the risk for flash, urban and small stream flooding.
The thunderstorms have the potential to unleash several inches of rain in as many hours, which could quickly overwhelm storm drains and low-lying areas.
Major flooding hit San Antonio, Texas, on Monday morning as nearly 2.5 inches of rain poured down across the metro area. Nearby, a Cocorahs observer recorded 7.52 inches of rain near Llano, Texas. According to the emergency manager, water rescues were performed in flooded areas.

Dallas and Houston; Shreveport, Louisiana; Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama; Atlanta; Columbia, South Carolina; and Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, are all in line for downpours this week.
The downpours will also target the Florida Peninsula, threatening to occasionally keep summer vacationers indoors in Orlando and Miami.
The thunderstorms will add to the meteorological summer (June through August) rainfall record that Gainesville, Florida, has already set. A total of 34.60 inches of rain fell spanning June to August 4, surpassing the previous record of 32.55 inches from 1965.
Gainesville averages 19.58 inches during the meteorological summer months.

Airline passengers may encounter flight delays, while residents should prepare for possible disruptions to sporting events and other outdoor plans.
A few of the thunderstorms may also unleash damaging winds.
“Typical August heat will be kept at bay due to the increase in thunderstorms,” Strait said.
High temperatures that are usually in the 90s F will be held in the lower to middle 80s.
The exception will be across much of the Florida Peninsula. Storms in this area will be more typical and spotty in nature. Temperatures are forecast to rise into the lower 90s on most days.

Tropical Storm Franklin to threaten Mexico twice this week

Tropical Storm Franklin formed over the western Caribbean Sea on Sunday and threatens to strike Mexico twice this week.
The combination of very warm water and diminishing wind shear will allow Franklin to strengthen before reaching the Yucatan Peninsula Monday night.

Wind shear is the changing of speed and direction of winds at different layers of the atmosphere. Strong wind shear can prevent tropical development or shred apart mature tropical storms or hurricanes.
As a result, Franklin may strengthen rapidly prior to its first landfall Monday night.
“Franklin could be close to hurricane strength when it makes landfall over the southeastern Yucatan Peninsula later Monday night,” according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski.
People on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula should hurry preparations due to a direct hit from a tropical system near hurricane strength during Monday night. A hurricane has sustained winds of 74 mph or greater with higher gusts.

Franklin also affect Honduras and Nicaragua, Belize, southeastern Mexico and northern Guatemala. Northern Belize could be hit hard, if Franklin shifts its track slightly farther south.
Downpours and gusty thunderstorms will ramp up and spread westward, while seas and surf build in the region.
“Mudslides could get triggered in the higher terrain of Central America,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Eric Leister said.
The worst of the storm will pass southeast of the Cayman Islands. However, rough seas will occur around the islands into Monday night.

Description:
The weather is a turbulent study of inconsistent predictions and volatile conditions that can take lives and destroy civilizations. How often have we been mad at the local weather person for incorrectly predicting the day’s conditions? The weather is unpredictable, and there are numerous variables that can change a forecast at the drop of a hat. Mother Nature and environmental conditions caused by man all work together to create today’s weather. Hot and cold air can create terrifying tornadoes that wipe out entire towns, simple conditions can create hurricanes that turn oceans into vortexes.
From rain to snow, the weather dictates the course of our regular lives. Snow days prevent us from going to school and work. Rain can evolve and escalate into flooding and cause our greatest assets to float away. There are different parts around the world that are exposed to different levels of sunlight and makes the weather different all over the world. There is no one set stagnant weather condition. For example, the far north and far south are the coldest parts of the world, while places by the equator are some of the hottest.
Blame it on global warming or the evolution of our environment, but the weather seems to be getting stranger with each passing year. Here are some of the strangest weather occurrences that have happened throughout history. From snow in Southern California to hot conditions in Arctic cities, these occurrences are grim reminders that nothing is set in stone, not even the weather.

From afar the Earth seems calm, a blue sphere turning peacefully in space, but travel closer and you find a turbulent and terrifying place. An atmosphere where hurricanes and tornados are spawned, and below that a realm of volcanos and earthquakes.

Starting just before New Year’s Day, on Boxing Day 2004, the year 2005 was the most disastrous on record, with hundreds of billions of pounds of losses and more than half a million deaths. This programme covers the litany of planetary catastrophes, from the extraordinary Boxing Day killer tsunami in the Indian Ocean, through the great Kashmir earthquake to Hurricane Katrina and the devastation it wrought on New Orleans, along with UK events, such as the Birmingham tornado, which reached the highest tornado category, yet miraculously killed no-one.

2005 saw an onslaught of epic-scale climate and geological events across the world, all caught on camera in the most spectacular fashion by professionals and amateurs alike. Using eye-witness footage, interviews with survivors and rescuers and analysis from geological and weather specialists, this documentary charts the incredible natural events of a year where almost every month was affected by a natural disaster.

At that time it was the hottest year on record, and the stormiest, people on every continent were affected in some way by the year’s disasters. World leading scientists and climatologists speculate whether the events have been triggered by a real shift in the earth’s climatic systems.

Some of the natural disasters covered in this documentary :

Indian Ocean Earthquake and Asian Tsunami

The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake was an undersea megathrust earthquake that occurred on 26th December with an epicentre off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. The earthquake was caused when the Indian Plate was subducted by the Burma Plate and triggered a series of devastating tsunamis along the coasts of most landmasses bordering the Indian Ocean, killing over 230,000 people in fourteen countries, and inundating coastal communities with waves up to 30 metres high.

Maharashtra Floods

The 2005 Maharashtra floods refers to the flooding of many parts of the Indian state of Maharashtra including large areas of the metropolis Mumbai a city located on the coast of the Arabian Sea, on the western coast of India, in which at least 5,000 people died.

Birmingham Tornado

The Birmingham tornado was one of the strongest tornadoes recorded in the United Kingdom in nearly 30 years, occurring on 28th July 2005 in the suburbs of Birmingham. The tornado uprooted an estimated 1,000 trees, removed the roofs of buildings, picked up and deposited cars and caused other damage during its short existence.

European Floods

The 2005 European floods hit mainly Romania, Switzerland, Austria and Germany, as well as several other countries in Central Europe and Eastern Europe during August. The disaster came at a time when Portugal was suffering from intense forest fires which left 15 dead.

Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina was the deadliest and most destructive Atlantic tropical cyclone of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. It is the costliest natural disaster, as well as one of the deadliest hurricanes, in the history of the United States. At least 1,833 people died in the hurricane and subsequent floods. The most significant number of deaths occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana, which flooded as the levee system catastrophically failed.

Kashmir Earthquake

The Kashmir earthquake occurred on 8th October 2005 and was centred in the Pakistan administered Kashmir near the city of Muzaffarabad, and also affected the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It registered a moment magnitude of 7.6. The government of Pakistan’s official death toll was 75,000. The severity of the damage caused by the earthquake is attributed to severe upthrust, coupled with poor construction.
