‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣ THIS EPISODE ‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣‣

After visiting the easternmost point of the US, West Quoddy Head Light (you can see that video here if you missed it: https://youtu.be/0qQwQop_b34 ), we decided to check out some of the history of the easternmost town in the US – Lubec, Maine!

Not only is the downtown adorable, but they have one of the cutest Little Libraries we have ever seen on the road! We went into town to check out the Smokehouse Museum, and it was so much more than we could have imagined. The gentleman who showed us around worked at the smokehouse many years ago before it shut down and gave us a wonderful tour.

The artifacts left over were fascinating as were the stories of those who worked there and how this industry built up this tiny little town at the Eastern tip of Maine. Not only is Lubec known for its herring fishing and smokehouses, but it also boasts some pretty amazing history including the location that George Washington sent a naval officer to in order to stop trading across the border which was essentially the beginning of the US Coast Guard.

All of the rain and mist had us in the mood for some yummy comfort food. Corey shares how he makes his delicious beef stew, and we enjoyed it outside on our last night in Lubec.

The next morning we headed to Seaview Campground and Cabins in Eastport which is the easternmost city in Maine! The sun finally came out, and we shared about one of our Big Dots coming up this fall, The Lippert Getaway in West Yellowstone from Sept 19-23. All the information to register for the weekend is above!

Stay tuned for next week as we head into Eastport for one of the coolest Independence Day experiences we have ever had! Be sure to like and subscribe and click on the bell icon for notifications when we release new videos!

Tent Proofing with Weather Seal – Part 2 – Spraying it on https://paranormalactivity.org/tent-proofing-with-weather-seal-part-2-spraying-it-on/ Wed, 02 Nov 2022 23:30:06 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/tent-proofing-with-weather-seal-part-2-spraying-it-on/

This is a follow up video to a tent waterproofing video a did a while back.
I tried a pressure spray bottle from my local budget store just to see if it would be a neater and more even way to apply Thomson’s Weather Seal to a tent.
Turns out my local hardware store stopped selling Thompson’s and switched to another brand. I figure one weather seal is like the next so switched brands and gave it a try. I did it on a coat a couple pillow cases (for my camp pillow) and an old tent my Mother-in-Law gave me because, hey why not?
It was easy to do, economical, cleaned up easily and seems to have done the job.
Yes, I do weird videos, part of the fun of being on here. Find myself chuckling because I am reminded daily that the world is diverse and that not everyone sees things the same way (my little blind guy joke for today).
Thanks to everyone for all the likes and the comments that are starting to come in, gives me something to think about.
Part of what inspired this was some questions I had from some fellow Scouters about how the technique worked and how the fabric felt after treating it. I have never really noticed anything to annoying, maybe a kind of tacky feeling but nothing so noticeable that the fabric stuck together unless you packed it up before you let it thoroughly dry.
For those of you making videos, keep it up, I love watching what you make, especially the DIY, hacks and other musing that highlight everyone’s quirky personality.

Two theories for an unsolved Soviet mystery https://paranormalactivity.org/two-theories-for-an-unsolved-soviet-mystery/ https://paranormalactivity.org/two-theories-for-an-unsolved-soviet-mystery/#comments Mon, 05 Apr 2021 12:00:02 +0000 http://paranormalactivity.org/two-theories-for-an-unsolved-soviet-mystery/

What killed 9 hikers in 1959?

✉ Sign up for our newsletter: http://www.vox.com/video-newsletter

In February 1959 a group of hikers disappeared in the remote Ural Mountains of Western Siberia. A search party found their tent weeks later, abandoned along with all of their equipment. Frozen bodies were found 1,500 meters away, mysteriously underdressed for the weather conditions: most weren’t wearing shoes or gloves, and some were just in their sleeping clothes. Even stranger, three of the hikers had suffered major internal trauma — broken ribs and a fractured skull — and two were wearing clothes contaminated with radioactive substances.

Nonetheless, the lead Soviet investigator closed the criminal case into the hikers’ deaths, concluding that an “overwhelming force” is what drove them from the tent. Theories ranging from rare weather events to conspiracy to UFOs have developed ever since, to explain what is now called the Dyatlov Pass incident. But two plausible theories, each involving an “overwhelming force” may finally explain what happened that night.

It could have been a delayed slab avalanche. The hikers dug a platform into the slope of Kholat Syakhl to pitch the tent, and a scientific model published in January 2021 demonstrates that this, combined with strong downslope winds that accumulated snow above the tent, triggered a deadly slab avalanche. This type of avalanche can occur even in places not known for avalanches and can cause injuries consistent with the ones some of the hikers sustained.

It also could have been a strong “katabatic wind,” a powerful wind that travels down a mountain slope, picking up speed under the force of gravity. In this scenario, a strong wind can become near-hurricane level very suddenly. If this happened the night of the incident, it could explain why the hikers would have abandoned their tent so quickly, as the powerful wind would potentially tear the tent apart. The mysterious internal injuries that some sustained are explained by a snow den the hikers dug for shelter collapsing on top of them.

Both theories offer potential solutions for what drove the hikers to suddenly abandon their tent, and why some were so severely injured. Ultimately though, since there were no survivors, many of the questions surrounding the case will likely never be answered.
