80 million Americans are facing heat alerts, with records being broken across the county following a weekend of record breaking temperatures from Florida to Arizona.
Climate scientists say this is what they have been warning about for decades: more intense and longer lasting patterns of extreme weather due to global warming. And this year the El Nino climate phenomenon is exacerbating man made climate change.
2023 looks to be on track to be the hottest year on record.

Its southern regions have endured a prolonged drought, while the capital – home to almost 10 million people – is bracing for severe flooding.
With more than 400,000 Indonesians infected with COVID-19, there are growing concerns the extreme weather could escalate the health crisis.
