A fierce heatwave is sweeping across southern Europe, with warnings of record-breaking temperatures
Temperatures are expected to surpass 40C (104F) in parts of Spain, France, Greece, Croatia and Turkey.
In Italy, temperatures could reach as high as 48.8C (119.8F). A red alert warning has been issued for 10 cities, including Rome, Bologna and Florence.
The Cerberus heatwave – named by the Italian Meteorological Society after the three-headed monster that features in Dante’s Inferno – is expected to bring more extreme conditions in the next few days.
It isn’t just Europe that is hot. This summer has seen temperature records smashed in parts of Canada and the US as well as across a swathe of Asia including in India and China.
Sea temperatures in the Atlantic have hit record highs while Antarctic sea ice is at the lowest extent ever recorded.
And it is going to get hotter.
A weather pattern called El Niรฑo is developing in the tropical Pacific. It tends to drive up temperatures by around 0.2C on average.
Add in the roughly 1.1C that climate change has pushed average temperatures up by worldwide and itโs perilously close to the 1.5C threshold the world has agreed to try and keep global temperatures below.

They talk as if these are the highest temperatures on record. Try checking these years, 879 AD, 993 AD,1000 AD, 1022 AD, 1132 AD, 1139 AD, 1200 AD, 1277 AD, 1303 AD and 1304 AD (when both the Rhine and the Danube rivers completely dried up) and 1625 AD. They all had one thing in common, mankind had not burnt any fossil fuels at that point. But of course they were all "anomalies" just like the 300 years of the Medieval Warming Period was a 300 year "anomaly". Whereas as today, less than a decade of relatively warm summers is not an "anomaly", it is the end of the world and definitely entirely due to the 3 per cent of extra Co2 emitted by mankind. (Shsh, nobody needs to mention the 97 per cent emitted by nature, it doesn't count, just another "anomaly").

I'm pretty.sure they lie about southern Europe. The coldest summer I can remember both at home and during summer vacation
I've been to Corsica 3 times in the last 4 years and it's.the first summer where I was cold several times. Same goes for the sea temperature. All lies – if at all temperstures close to the Sahara reached around 40 degrees. Even now our climate panic media try to tell us how "hot" it is this summer.
