Reasons You Should or Shouldn’t Buy This 2019 Newmar Dutchstar?

I’m back at National Indoor RV Center in Surprise, Arizona looking at another Newmar RV for Doug Sewell and sewellmotorcoach.com. This time it is a short 38 foot 2019 Dutchstar. Newmar packed a great deal of surprises and quality into this unit. Unsurprisingly, this Newmar is also beautiful and in great condition. But I think I came up with a list of reasons to buy it and a list of reasons not to buy it.

Thanks again to the staff at NIRVC for their kindness.

Don’t forget to check out Doug’s page where I’m sure he will put a video together on this 2019 Dutchstar too. @swisher8591

That rear corner piece you brought attention to looks like maybe a tree branch brushed up there. I saw some paint scrapes in that area as well. That place you're at has a lot of inventory. Think I'll check the place out. Oh, I liked this unit. Pre-covid build years I'm also a fan of. But two things I didn't like. The narrow space when slides are in, as you showed, and the bathroom is a bit cramped. Maybe price could supersede those dislikes but I doubt it.

Thank you for taking us along for this tour James. Always enjoy your advice, likes and dislikes. Happy trails!

You mean quality in the RV industry was better pre-pandemic!? I cannot imagine how the quality post-pandemic could get any worse!

Badger Pa February 18, 2023 at 3:18 am

"I wouldn't be able to make that turn" lol. Good comedy. You do an excellent job showing the rig, Doug is very lucky to have you do the inspections and we ate lucky for the videos. Angie is pretty great and covers everything but cannot do a roof inspection. Stay safe and healthy Sir.

Great vid. I have 20 dutch star 4081 on a spartan k2 chassis. Also a precovid build. One point for the roof, the drains are designed poorly. There is a 90 degree bend and the pvc is 1/2 inch. So even though the drains look clean crud accumulates and blocks the drain requiring periodic flushing with water and air hose. One of my hacks was to remove the drains and cut a thick scotch brite pad to fit. Acts like a filter allowing water to flow but catches the crud. Did it 1 yr ago after unclogging the drain and it has stayed clean. Also after a basement door didnt latch properly i added safety straps to the basement doors to prevent them from swinging open. Love my dutch star.

Great video James! Thank you for teaching us what to look for both pre-purchase and for maintenance.
I love the Cherry wood in this too!
I agree that the sink design is practical. It seems to me that it will protect the plumbing better from cold temps since it's not on the outside wall.
It's a shame they didn't make this rig just a foot wider so with the slides in it's not such a tight squeeze.
It's a really nice DP without having a 500k+ price.

Could you make a video on why a 2 front piece windshield would pop out at the top corners?

Beautiful coach! Nice to a shorter coach with a lot of nice features πŸ‘Œ

Hey James! Thanks for the tour! We almost bought one of these (2022 model year). Instead, we got a New Aire. Formally Newmar lists the Durch Star as the top of their diesel line (New Aire as bottom of their luxury line). But, I agree that this Dutch Star gives away nothing to the New Aire. πŸ˜‰ The narrow slides theoretically SHOULD make the RV more usable in travel-mode. Ditto for the New Aire. BUT, it doesn't play out that way. We do have a wider aisle in front of the refrigerator than this Dutch Star did. Our refrigerator has recessed areas (rather than protruding areas — handles). Thanks again!

If we ever chose to upgrade we'll know all the little luxury items we can't have . . . or will fail in time LOL. VERY NICE coach and video! Thanks for sharing.

Could you give some advice on what to use to fasten Luan to aluminum studs. Repairing water damage on a 2013 CrossRoads Elevation 3612. 18ga Staples and brad nails seems to curl up and bounce off.

Vern Edwards February 21, 2023 at 5:26 pm

I watch all your videos and need some advice. My DW wants to buy a new Forest River 26 foot travel trailer that I really like But it has the cable slide and I just don't like them as well as the pinion versions. If you had to choose which one would you own? I really trust your opinion more than any.

Slim Jim! Great Vid! Thx!

Anthony Licwinko February 25, 2023 at 7:17 pm

To bad they choose to cheap out on the ceiling vents, they should be Maxx airs on such an expensive RV, or at least have covers.
