Keeping Your Cool on the Climate Debate with Bjorn Lomborg

Recorded on March 4, 2021

Dr. Bjorn Lomborg is president of the Copenhagen Consensus Center, visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, and visiting professor at Copenhagen Business School. He’s also been speaking and writing about climate science for almost 20 years. In this wide-ranging discussion with Peter Robinson, Lomborg analyzes the Biden administration’s plan to address climate change, lauds a slew of new clean energy technologies that are coming in the next decade, and discusses the upsides—and the downsides—of migrating the world from a carbon-based economy to one based on electricity generated by clean energy sources.

Lomborg said…"Biden's right, we expect about a one degree rise in temperature since the industrial revolution…"

I find it really hard to get concerned over what Biden (and scientists) are saying about this ONE DEGREE rise in global temperature over the past 150+ years due to the Industrial Revolution when the daily temperature change is twenty to thirty degrees. What they're saying, in effect is that we can flourish in an annual temperature range of say 20-100 degrees, but an annual temperature range only a few degrees higher will kill us all.

"This year, it was 20 degrees in January and 100 degrees in July. But in a few years, if it's 22 degrees in January and 102 degrees in July, we'll all die!"

Seriously?

Wow I didn’t know it was possible to have a reasonable conversation about climate change 🤣 bravo

Fay Fairley June 28, 2022 at 6:49 am

We need to listen to the science, Climate is about making money, over the last 200 hundred years the temperature has risen by 1 degree. Batteries from electric cars are toxic what do we do to get rid of them when they come to the end of useful life . Materials used in Solar Panels cause destruction. I'm convinced 100,% this is just another way to fund buisnesses and make money.

Because human beings cannot control solar Cycles and they cannot control the volcanoes of the world, it is pointless to try to control the weather we are at the whim of the sun and the power of the Sun.

RED BEAR July 25, 2022 at 2:03 pm

The human mind needs fixing not the planet.

dana Andrusik July 27, 2022 at 12:24 am

Please. Diesel is 98% less polluting than 15 years ago. Gasoline cars less than that since 1965. Innovation is right!!! Cold fusion was just done this week; have you seen any headlines about it?

01nmuskier July 27, 2022 at 3:21 pm

Any time anyone says the global climate temperature has increased, you must ask, since when?
The global temperature has been much higher and much lower than today. The goal should be less waste and pollution. Carbon is not the enemy.

Matthew July 27, 2022 at 8:56 pm

Green energy increased under trump.

Matthew July 27, 2022 at 9:09 pm

Dont think biden has done a single thing he has promised, but he did fulfill some of trumps promises that he was forced to like leaving afghan. Which is really a trump accomplishment, bungling of it was bidens fault for leaving 6 months to late. Biden will not do anything he is just there to try be a reasonable figure head while they launder billions though ukraine

This totally makes sense.. i was told by some one that Volcanoes kick out more co2 just in one volcano like mt. St Helen than most of the co2 man has created…. i would like reponse if possible…

Bobby Jenkins July 28, 2022 at 1:59 pm

To add, I think one problem is alot of the people in power don't really understand innovation does not occur without alot of mistakes, money and redos. They want to hear a solid plan that works right away theoretically. Thank you, this really educated me.

"Man-made" "climate change", absolutely! Cuz. y'know, like TESLA technology, scalar weaponry, Geo-Engineering, global weather WARFARE treaties dating back to 1977, DEWS etc.

I'm a huge fan of nuclear power, so making it cheaper and spreading it around the world would be HUGE.
I don't know why more people aren't looking into using thorium, it's more abundant than uranium and has a built in failsafe if everything goes wrong.

Michael Clark July 28, 2022 at 8:55 pm

Thorium based reactors fission non-fusible reactors no uranium from reactors

Dan Wipper August 10, 2022 at 10:23 am

Climate change is real good thing we warmed up the little ice age killed 1/3 the population. Man made/anthropogenic climate change is real but didn't work very well and has been augmented with plandemics. Man made global warming to control the population, more specifically government's created the scare tactic "global warming". The threat is real, oligarchy's killed FAR more people than climate in the past 100 years.
Mao, "The Great Leap Forward" killed 80 million.
Nature; Great flood in China 1931 killed 3 million.

Carol Danson August 10, 2022 at 1:03 pm

Then why are all these leaders flying all over the place? Why are they flying for there own pleasures if the carbon is such a problem??. I can not believe this nonsense. We once had 2 miles of ice over northern North America and it melted without our SUV and other vehicles. I have heard from all these experts go on about the critical problem of climate. The truth is we humans do not control the climate of the world but we do control the micro climate of cities. The trees and plants are starving for CO2. Why do commercial greenhouses have CO2 generators?? Our planet has been warmer in the past and CO2 levels have been much higher and in fact if you sit in an assembly hall the CO2 level will be about 1500-1800ppm. So we can tolerate higher levels.
NOTE ABOUT THE FALSE INFORMATION ABOUT GREEN ENERGY. The wind turbines have huge carbon footprints and are only 18% efficient so little energy and they take up huge amount space. Would you like surgery and suddenly there is no wind. WOW. The solar farms take up huge space over good farm land. Do theses are not great and expensive.

Carol Danson August 10, 2022 at 1:29 pm

What about NUCLEAR ENERGY?? ONLY 1 PERSON HAS DIED BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT AND THERE WE PEOPLE WHO DID NOT GET IODINE IN TIMELY MANNER AFTER THE CHERNOBYL ACCIDENT. THEREFORE WHAT ABOUT NUCLEAR ENERGY?? IT IS CLEAN AND LAST A LONG TIME AND WITH ALL THE SAFETY MEASURES IT'S SAFE.

ALPHAghostRABBIThole August 10, 2022 at 8:59 pm

The Climate Change Agenda is about CONTROL. We do not BITCH to China for being the Number One CO2 Emiters. We are creating WW3 by not using DIPLOMACY to avoid war. Is War bad for the environment? Will WW3 be bad for the Environment?

Jonathan Showman August 11, 2022 at 7:33 am

It's disingenuous how YouTube places "context" flags on videos like this. It does nothing but make a discussion seem discreditable to those who would have no opinions on the topics being discussed. Basically subconsciously swaying those in the middle to think the video is incorrect rather than coming to a conclusion themselves.

Mark Davenport August 11, 2022 at 1:02 pm

GM announcement on EVs as a global leader is a bloody joke. Biden did not even invite Biden to the global EV summit for his political views and not being unionized. GM sold something like 31 EVs in total that year, whereas Teslas sold over 300,000 vehicles. There is only one car company moving the needle and that is Tesla. This should have been pointed out!!!!!

ChipBuddy August 14, 2022 at 7:56 pm

Climate change is real and has always existed. I don’t understand the obsession with carbon? Life forms love carbon. The earth produces tons of carbon. I’m not convinced carbon is the largest source of the problem

SFB August 15, 2022 at 4:00 am

This is more about an economic and monetary system in collapse. You can only take so much demand from the future to spend in the present via Ponzi finance and usury. They're trying solve a problem that doesn't exist. Then later they will claim they fixed the problem!

A future ice age is historically far more likely to happen than imaginary planetary overheating and would be far more damaging to the human race. Fact.

uncgrad 10 October 6, 2022 at 2:32 pm

I'll start believing Kerry when he lives what he preaches and stops with the plastic surgery, we know both of those things will never happen. Notice how all the corp media was trying to analyze Hurricane Ian as if it was caused by climate change, yet never produced any evidence to support such a claim. This is what they do; repeat, repeat, repeat until they believe.

uncgrad 10 October 6, 2022 at 2:36 pm

I can't get over the sheer contradiction of all this climate investment. Take all these solar panel farms we have in NC. Huge swaths of hundreds, maybe even thousands of acres of solar panels riddle these rural areas where there should be farms, affordable housing or just be left alone. How much of the natural environment was destroyed in order to build those ugly solar farms. A few more nuclear plants would've been more logical.

What is the earths ideal temperature? Maybe it’s too cold as is and needs to be increased. Maybe we’re doing a great job heating it up. Winter sucks

Are they talking about the same 12 yr warning the UN issued in 1989? Yeah…. I call BS!
