Strange Weather

It’s More Likely Than You Think!

Where do we find inspiration in TTRPGs? This video finds an answer in an unlikely place: Roku’s City Scroll – Movie Magic screensaver! Join me as I draw a line from a streaming service’s illustration, to a wordless TTRPG adventure, to a pair of very word-lite adventures which I guess I’ll name now for the sake of SEO. That’s right, this video contains a brief overview of The Undying Sands and an in-depth review of The Bottled Sea, both by Games Omnivorous!

Also here’s that 17th Century Minimalist video if you wanna watch it, I think it holds up pretty well: https://youtu.be/bY_YT5Kjaqo

hey this was a really fun video! the saran wrap was a cool way to show annotations and got me thinking about other ways to achieve the same effect which i might have to try.

Probably the most in-depth analysis I've seen on any TTRPG. Really cool.

THE RETURN

(I will leave a proper comment later once I finish the video)

This is a real good review. I will defend the exploding whale thing on account of my love of rot gas whale explosions, other than that perfect video no notes!

Dang Vi, you consistently make hands down the best ttrpg content online. Is there anyone else like you??? I'm always wanting more

Ken B April 27, 2023 at 1:00 pm

I immediately thought of the adventure from Dissident Whispers when the video started and Vi, you're 1,000% correct here

Ok! I have officially watched the video!

I loved the review, these products both look very fun to run so maybe I'll pick up one or the other! Also I really enjoyed the talk about how you can take any piece of art and turn it into an adventure if you just add words, i feel like that's something I've always known but never really thought deeply about, i just think it's a neat concept.

I loved the ceran wrap! Genius way to do highlighting simply. I also loved the discussion of the economy of words in products like this. As someone who hopes to eventually make some short form ttrpg content, it's very good advice! I'm honestly probably gonna rewatch those parts of the video again later.

Finally, i am a tiny bit sad we didnt get your official Roku Screensaver ttrpg supplement, but i guess all the good stuff in the rest of the video makes up for it. :p

I always wondered if anyone else looked over that roku screensaver. I got excited the other day when I noticed my wife's roku had a different screen.
