Strange Weather

How Does Weather Actually Work? | Richard Hammond’s Wild Weather Compilation | Earth Stories

Weather is one of the most astonishing forces on earth. With devastating power and spectacular beauty, no matter where on this planet you live. But for most of us, how it actually works is a mystery. To really understand the science behind weather, Richard Hammond takes on some ambitious and brave experiments to show us weather like we’ve never seen before.
Starting with how wind actually originates, Hammond visits one of the windiest places on the planet, Mount Washington, New Hampshire. He walks into the centre of a man-made tornado and creates a 10-metre high whirlwind – made of fire! He then investigates the crucial role of water and tries to weigh a cloud, finds out how rain could crush a car and gets involved in starting an avalanche before finally finishing with the crucial role temperature plays in the role of weather and natural disasters alike.

Wind: 00:00-56:53
Water: 56:54- 1:43:44
Temperature: 1:43:45-2:51:11

In my country we only have tame weather. When you got wild weather, that's the consequence of you having too much sun. It's about energy, and where does it come from? Right, from the sun and nothing else. Okay, atmospheric nuclear tests.

Only idiots think that weather has secrets

I’m so pleased Hammy did go into the twister.
He would most definitely have been sucked out through the air vent, never to be seen again.🙏🇬🇧👍

Two minutes in and I'm done. That guy really don't understand what he talking about.
Title of video: How does weather work
First claim in the video at 1:30 : "…. wind is the force behind the weather…."
Haha…..I simply can't believe it. Let me tell you: WIND IS THE RESULT of what is go on in the atmosphere ….NOT WHAT CAUSE THE WEATHER….

I have been a professional meteorologist for over 30 years and found this series very enjoyable to watch. Always cool to observe the physics of the atmosphere through scientific experimentation. Well done Hamster!

Hey Richard the earth isn’t a planet, it’s not a globe, it’s a level earth plane, and that’s a fact of reality, you can take that to the bank😉

"The whirlpool is a definite form, but no water stays put in it. The whirlpool is something the stream is doing, and exactly the same way, the whole universe is doing each one of us, and I see each one of you today and I recognize you tomorrow, just as I would recognize a whirlpool in a stream. I'd say 'Oh yes, I've seen that whirlpool before, it's just near so-and-so's house on the edge of the river, and it's always there.' So in the same way when I meet you tomorrow, I recognize you, you're the same whirlpool you were yesterday. But you're moving. The whole world is moving through you, all the cosmic rays, all the food you're eating, the stream of steaks and milk and eggs and everything is just flowing right through you. When you're wiggling the same way, the world is wiggling, the stream is wiggling you."
– Alan Watts

33:04 lol… European houses could withstand such fores.. just build better houses who are not cheap like hell, and they could withstand those Tornados.. they just build cheap flat on the ground, without even fixed the houses to the ground, thats why those houses fall apart.. That has nothing to do with ''not understanding'' the winds….

XtreeM FaiL September 18, 2023 at 9:10 pm

How can someone have manage to build anything on a place where you can't even stand because of the wind?

Jak September 20, 2023 at 10:27 pm

Usually deadly tornadoes are the most frequent extreme weather events here in north Alabama and we both don’t have time to read or type a comment about all the tornadoes that have occurred near me so instead I’ll comment about the more rare weather events I’ve experienced.
We had an ice storm here in north Alabama back in 96 or 97 when I was a kid and it was pretty much horrible. Trees fell on power lines and homes everywhere so the power was out for nearly a week and the roads stayed iced over for days. We had the big snow storm in 92 (really a blizzard that had snow lightning and all) and the power went down for days but at least we had the snow to play in.. with the ice storm the only benefit was school being cancelled for a week. Because it’s northeast Alabama we cancel school, business and roads close.. nearly everything shuts down if we just get a few inches of snow or icy roads. When roads do get slippery from snow or ice people crash out everywhere and the tow truck companies with snow chains and 4×4 make lots of money. It’s just not common enough for people to buy snow chains or tires and don’t have enough experience driving in those conditions. Usually the people that end up stranded in the ditch are just idiots who can’t drive anyway.

Woooooo – Mt. Washington!!! A friend, my Hubby and I visited Mt. Washington October, 2018 LOOOOOVED it!! At base, partly sunny and mild (t-shirt weather and we brought parkas, gloves, etc.). Gusts were 60 mph. (Gusts, nothing! Seemed pretty steady at full force to me!!) I weigh ~ 137 pounds so I was almost at my upright limit. A fellow tourist took a terrific photo of us. A day to remember, forever!

georgex231 October 6, 2023 at 12:03 pm

that's how EVERYTHING connecting in nature.. hail has layers like trees 🤯🤯🤯🤯

Melony October 6, 2023 at 2:12 pm

Richard has finally become a real American. 'How much does that cloud weigh?'
About one elephant or that many jumbo jets. Anything but the metric system😂

How does the weather work? You mean how did it work before HAARP. The High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program.

I was quite lucky to see the dominator 3 vehicle on my way to Kansas City earlier this year. They were hauling, and I kept up with them for about 20 minutes before they turned off onto a dirt road. I just barley got a couple pictures for proof. It's such a cool looking vehicle; like and stealth armadillo.
I'm going to wishfully think they were running late to film this segment.

Dennis Gutowski October 15, 2023 at 9:52 pm

Sorry, as a Wisconsinite, this man is full of "it". Snow seldom comes down gently here. Usually it comes down in big chunks making visibility a joke. And we call big chunks of ice falling from the sky hail all year round. But, the point I want to make is NOT how fast it's going. Hail can gain a lot of mass. When you see a chunk of hail a third the size of a baseball, it's not how fast it's going, it's how much mass it has. That's what injures people and damages property. It's top speed is always no faster than terminal velocity, but if you get hit with a piece of ice the size of an ounce, not too bad. When you get hit with a piece of ice the weight of over 2 pounds, then that's when you're ducking for cover.
