The reality of nuclear combat’s devastation was clear as soon as the first atomic weapons were dropped during World War II, leading the U.S. government to develop a “doomsday plan” out of perceived necessity. In the Cold War era, the threat of impending nuclear warfare – and the fear it caused in the American citizenship – escalated even further. Politicians played on this fear, and the government began planning for a potential attack. Testing bombs on mock cities in the Nevada desert – constructed to assess potential damage – was only part of the doomsday strategy.

How hot will our planet actually get? Climate scientists try to answer this question by evaluating the “climate sensitivity”. And if you’ve watched the recent Sabine Hossenfelder, you may be left with the impression that climate change wasn’t much to worry about… but now it is. So I’m here to explain what the evidence is actually showing us, and why the situation is a little more nuanced than Sabine’s commentary may have suggested. And crucially I break down how climate scientists arrive at a number for the crucial “climate sensitivity”, to give us a sense for how much global warming we’re in for.

In this weather forecast, we are breaking down a DIFFERENT weather pattern that we’ve not seen in quite some time, which is an Omega Block pattern! This will lead to much warmer weather than average, in addition to less rainfall for most of the USA. However, this will take an interesting twist because MULTIPLE storms will crash into California over the next few days, leading to some energy moving into the Southern Tier of the USA, which will lead to isolated severe weather and plenty of rainfall! These will impact areas like the Southern Plains, Mississippi Valley, Midwest, and Ohio Valley. This weather pattern is a part of El Nino, which has led to more active weather in the Southern Tier of the USA, while the Northern Tier has been less active.
