This year’s Ames Moot Court Competition teams sparred over Article III judicial power in the hypothetical case, Ames County Board of Commissioners v. Energon U.S.A.
This year’s presiding judges were Sri Srinivasan of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit; Britt Grant of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit; and Rowan Wilson ’84 of the New York Court of Appeals.

The Ames Moot Court Competition is one of the most prestigious competitions for appellate brief writing and advocacy in the country. The students participating in the Final Round started the competition in fall of their 2L year. Two teams progressed to the Final Round through their strong research abilities and excellent written and oral advocacy.

The problem of the oil company and global warming does not concern one American state with another, but concerns the world and all human beings on all parts of the globe, and I believe the solution
Instead of imposing a tax or compensation on it, every oil company in the whole world
That the oil companies be required to designate a financial fund to start using modern technology in reducing the risk of emissions that affect the climate and health
I don’t know the other two but Sri Srinivasan should have been a lock for the Supreme Court.

Conflict of laws case :the situs choice of law is usually (the aggregate of ) the totality of the contacts. Place of incorporation, physical location of the origin of the alleged harm, and site of the injury. Diversity of citizenship effects choice of forum , federal or state jurisdiction . Lots of old cases like Worldwide Volkswagen are similar , Interstate vs intrastate commerce . Thorny issues of standing ,jurisdiction, tort , and causality. As usual in moot court competitions one side had the better argument on standing jurisdiction , the other on substantive ( tort ) law. But, did the judges render an advisory opinion?
Laws are just people's opinions man. It's all so subjective.
