I believe the life, death and resurrection of Christ is #1 but obviously not all agree. Aside from that, I find this list interesting. It's very geared to the last two and a half centuries. I acknowledge that knowledge and change are accelerating. Yet how is the assassination of JFK on a par with the Gutenberg press or the Roman empire or the industrial revolution in world history? Understanding history broadens our perspective beyond the recent.

Where is Napoleon and the following Concert of Europe, the Birth of Germany which upsetted the balance of power, the Crimean War and the changes in Medicine such as the creation of the Red cross and the Fall of the Berlin Wall effectively ending the Cold War.

My choice for the most important event in world history is the Battle of Djahy. It was fought in 1178 B.C. or 1175 B.C. between the Egyptian Empire and the invading coalition of armies known today as the Sea Peoples during the Late Bronze Age collapse. If the Egyptians had lost that battle, then the Egyptian Empire would have fallen to a duel invasion from land and the more numerous navy of the Sea Peoples on its way to attack Egypt up the mouth of the Nile River.
The Late Bronze Age was suffering from drought and famine lasting roughly 300 years, diseases, and great numbers of earthquakes lasting over about a 50 year span, everywhere that is, except in Egypt. Egypt was the place to resettle to for long-term inhabitation. The Sea Peoples were likely mostly a large group of people working together to plunder for survival. Every major power including the Mycenaeans and the Hittites were laid waste, and virtually every city around and throughout the Mediterranean was either abandoned or destroyed leading into a dark age lasting around 300 years before written records show up again.
If the Sea Peoples had defeated the Egyptian Empire and established a new one, they'd have centuries to establish control over a large area for at least a couple hundred years before the greatly diminished Assyria Empire could pose any challenge to them. If they kept up their strong tradition of seamanship, then they'd end up controlling all of the Mediterranean and coastlines. There would be no Carthage, Roman Empire, or Ancient Greek philosophy or Democracy, and so forth. Our world would be unrecognizable today if the Egyptians had decisively lost that battle.

Correction. 14 โEuropean colonialism. This created greater wrath for European but slavery and impoverishment for everyone elseโ . Wrong. Slavery existed in EVERY society. Europeans engaged in the slave trades of other countries. Colonization did NOT lead to impoverishment – it actually brought enormous wealth to every country where it happened.
